I miss Darwinism :(
I've been beta testing LotR and it opened to the public this week. I've always wondered where all the stupid people who play mmos come from...and I've always thought there was no way to get rid of them, but I realized something. If you make a game hard to access *such as a beta* the stupid people wont bother trying to play it. They flooded in this week, though. And I suddenly saw aspects of mmos that I hadn't seen in LotR before. These are just a few.
Remember: Everyone starts out as a newb, only the n00bs stay that way.

Don't Be A N00B
There are a lot of really good MMOs coming out, if not recently released. I've actually been pleasantly surprised by LotR so far, and though I haven't done more than fiddle with the character creation, I've heard Pink rant and rave about it nearly constantly. Hey, at least I'm not ready to smack her upside the head yet. That's a good sign for the game. ;)
In other MMO news, I'm about to pop waiting for Pirates of the Burning Sea to come out. I signed up for the beta, but alas, I'm not sure my computer is powerful enough to run it as well as they'd like.
But it still looks absolutely bloody fantastic. Not only can you be the captain of your own ship, you can also walk around on deck, sail it, land it, get off of the ship and walk onto land. Then, if you aren't already screaming "finally!" you can then board a buddy's ship and go a pilliaging with them as well.
All I can say is... it's about time.

MMOs
I'm not all big on medieval MMOs anymore. The genre is a dead horse that has dissipated into dust particles which can no longer be beaten, yet game companies continue to try. Perhaps I'm biased because I'm more of a sci-fi person, though.

You have a certain point
Indeed, for those of us who have been around since the advent of EQ 1.0, the idea of playing another medieval MMO is exasterbating. But there are several of the younger generation (and certainly plenty of the old generation who simply didn't play the old games) who find the more current games like WoW and LotR an entirely new experience.
That said, even though I've never played an MMO for very long (had EQ1 for a while as well as WoW and Star Wars Galaxies), none of them have yet to capture my full attention much less render my will down to a pathetic nub like some malnourished, unemployed Korean MMO addict.
My husband plays Eve Online, and has become rather good at creating protection rackets and other various and sundry nefarious dealings. He seems rather amused, and I certainly appreciate what they've done to truly beautify the experience. But there's just something about being able to step off a ship, stretch your legs, and look at the land that it sorely misses.

I have three things to say:
1.WoW and EQ2 murdered all the fun MMO's ever had for me.
2.All MMO's are now are kill, move on, kill certain things for items, PVP, wait for expansion pack, repeat.
3.MOOOMOMOMOMMOMOMMMOMOMOMOMOMOMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm wearing a hat so it won't show.
It really depends on what you're into as to how engulfed you'll be. I've liked cartoons and superheroes since I was little and have been playing City of Heroes for over two years, now. I still can't get enough.
There's another MMO (whose name escapes me) that has nothing to with killing but is instead a 3d landscape for artists to show off their artwork, animations, and so forth. Your character is as diverse as your imagination. I wish I could remember the name.
Anyway, I'm betting that there's a MMO out there for everyone; just gotta find out what it is you can't get enough of. If the art MMO sounds interesting, I'll see if I can find the name of it for you.

Hmm...
Might you be talking about the new MMOG that our friends at 3 Rings is developing? I believe it's called Whirled. I mean, I hadn't heard it described as a place to show off art, but it's mostly user-created content, which is fantastic.

Thats actually one of the things I like most about this mmo, Kael. There is alot of roleplaying vs kill steal repeat. And yes, I do mean role playing not roll playing in case anyone wants to complain. I never played EQ or WOW but they looked kind of boring to me. I like alot of good art in my mmos.

Indeed
Yeah, Pink's playing LotR right now. I'm waiting till the end of this week to see what Blizzard announces. Cause if it is indeed a Starcraft MMO, I'm going to shat myself with happiness.

If there is a Starcraft MMO, I'm going to cry. They've already canceled SC:Ghost. Besides, it'll probably be just like WoW, but modified to look different and have slightly different features.

Maybe, maybe not.
Yes.... Starcraft:Ghost is the reason that if they do an MMO, it'd better be damn good, cause I'll be pissed otherwise. Let's not even get into Duke Nukem Fornever.
